Women & Men Against Child Abuse gets connected with SBS Africa

SBS Africa has donated computer equipment to Women & Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA) to help the non-profit organisation forge electronic links with other organisations that deal with abused children.

Says Miranda Friedman, director at WMACA: "The computer equipment from SBS has been invaluable in helping us to network with other child organisations, the SAPS Child Protection Unit and the Justice Departments. Access to the Internet facilitates the sharing of information between ourselves and the organisations we deal with every day, helping us to speed up the processes we follow in helping abused children."
WMACA is also using the computer equipment to design advertisements for fund-raising and awareness campaigns.

Anthony Davies, sales & marketing director at SBS Africa, says that SBS Africa decided to contribute the computer equipment to WMACA because the organisation is largely dependent on public donations to fund its operations.

"WMACA tackles child abuse through advocacy and awareness campaigns. It organisation takes a holistic approach to the complex issues around child abuse, one of the biggest problems we face in South Africa. We saw the organisation as a deserving recipient for some of our social responsibility funds because of the invaluable role it plays in helping victims and fighting against the crime of child abuse," he adds.

One of WMACA's aims is to generate a network that protects and serves the best interests of abused children. WMACA also runs a Kidz Clinic which offers an one-stop service - covering the assessments, medical examination, therapy and court preparation of children - which eliminates the possibility of further traumatisation of a child that has suffered abuse.
