"Mobile
business is becoming an increasingly important focus area for SBS Africa.
MTNdataFAST complements our range of mobile product and services offerings
such as sales, support and installations of Microsoft Mobile Information
Server, notebooks and other mobile access devices, and rollout of mobile
applications," says Anthony Davies, sales and marketing director at SBS
Africa Holdings:
Davies
says that the MTNdataFAST technology supports a range of business
applications, from security, IT support and vehicle tracking solutions
through to personal productivity tools and field service- and sales-force
automation.
Like CSD, HSCD allocates a user a single core time slot for the duration of each
call. Each timeslot has a throughput speed of up to 14,4bps. However,
MTNdataFAST also offers users to access to three or four extra time slots to
transfer data, depending on factors such as network availability, coverage
and applications.
By
using these additional time slots, users will experience faster data
transfer speeds (up to 57,6Kbps) and only pay for the use of a single time
slot. Billing for the service is calculated at MTN's standard voice rates.
Dion McClosky, Senior Account Executive at MTN South Africa, says that the
reseller agreement builds on a long and multifaceted relationship between
SBS and MTN. SBS Africa is one of MTN's IT services suppliers, and is also a
reseller of MTN's corporate Internet access offerings.
"MTNdataFAST
allows users to send and receive any data from real-time moving pictures to
spreadsheets across the cellular phone to a laptop or PDA up to six times
faster than older cellular data technologies.
We have focussed on making the technology as easy to use as possible
for customers that are familiar with dial-up Internet connectivity,”
said McClosky.
MTNdataFAST
is supported by a range of Nokia and Ericsson handsets. MTN users will be
able use roaming facilities with more than 30 international networks that
support HSCSD roaming.
